“ Greetings, I am Phoenix Fiyah. I am a full embodiment of living and loving fearlessly in the face of obstacles. Since as far back as I can remember I have LOOOOVVVVEEDDD to dance. I was given the symbolic name, Phoenix, some of my earliest dance mentors and teachers Derek Brown & Cheryl Brown of X-Faction Dance Company.
My mother put me in training at the age of 6 and I literally never stopped……until 2006 when I was in a severe car accident shattering my pelvis and fracturing my jaw. Everything stopped. I was immobile, in pain, and under depression. Coincidentally, I had also been in an extremely unhealthy relationship at the time. This was the first significant “low” I had ever experienced in my young adult life. I can only give abundant gratitude for what happened in that following year and a half.
With a wonderful rehabilitation therapist, Super parents, and incredible support system of family and friends, I was able to dig deep, rise like the Phoenix I was and reignite my flame to burn brighter than ever before. No holding back, I healed, left the relationship, and moved to Atlanta where FIYAH® was born. My focus and dedication grew as a Black Diaspora Cultural Advocate, AfroCaribbean dance practitioner, and Women’s Empowerment Leader. Since 2007 I have been able to live out my passion and purpose reaching so many people through culture and community, music and movement, self care and healing practices. And I would love to help YOU too, ignite YOUR FIYAH within.
My life and legacy is dedicated to the discovery of African diasporic connections, advocacy for cultural arts and education, empowering women and healing the community at large. Now, currently based in New York, I spread the FIYAH® locally, nationally, and internationally and I invite YOU to connect with me…collaborate, take a class, catch a performance, join the retreat, or simply reach out and have a conversation with me on how to keep your FIYAH® glowing, shining, and blazing it up FULLY.” -Jessica Phoenix
